Writing success!

Here are tips for writing success.

Practice writing something everyday. Here are some examples:

* names

* coping labels

* copy words that you write down

* copy words from flashcards

* after copying words have them try to remember how to spell them on their own

* demonstrate how to write a short sentence and they copy

* focus on writing in lines

* focus on capital letters in beginning of sentences

* focus on periods at the end of the sentences

* brave spell the sounds of words and write down what you hear

 

Here are tips for reading success.

* Read to your child everyday

* Have you child read to you even if they don't know all the words let them sound out the words to read them or make up part of the story.

* Ask them questions about stories read

* Have your child sound out words to figure out what they say.

* Play a memory game with the sight words.

* Go to starfall.com & pbskids.org.

* Play guess the covered word in stories. Hide words with you fingers or paper.

* Play a scrabble game where you make word cards with one letter on each card. Then mix them up and have child put word back together.

 

Here are tips for Math success.

* Count to 100 (jump, clap, count items)

* Identify numbers 0-20 (flashcards)

* Write numbers 0-20

* Play matching number game

* Make patterns with toys, pasta, anything with multiple colors. AB, AAB, ABB, AABB, ABC

* Add & subtract simple numbers ( 2+1) use toys 

* Identify coins

* Tell time to the hour. Look at clock at least once a day when it is to the hour and see if child can tell you what it is.
