October 1st was the start of the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as Moon Festival, which is a traditional festival celebrated by many East and Southeast Asian people. On this day, the Chinese believe that the moon is at its brightest and fullest size, coinciding with harvest time in the middle of Autumn. The holiday is similar to the United States' Thanksgiving celebration and generally includes a family feast with mooncakes for dessert. Families spend time with relatives and enjoy visiting lantern displays together. Mrs. Schindler's class read the legend of Chang'e, the moon goddess, and then celebrated by making glowing lanterns for students to enjoy with their families that evening.

Please review the letter from Superintendent, Ms. Dawn Elser that was emailed to all families today, Wednesday, October 14. If your child will be riding the bus to school, please see the needed Daily-Self-Certification Form at Central104.org. Thank you for your continued support and cooperation. Please do not hesitate to call or email if you have any questions. We are excited to welcome students back into the building!
